Ahhh. Dragons and Books

What could be better?IMG_7954

After seeing this image by silverybeast (you can find the image here http://silverybeast.deviantart.com/art/Stories-to-Come-True-lineart-281817629 )

how could I NOT color it. It’s amazing. The idea and the execution! Don’t you love how the dragon is just coming out of the book?

Again, still practicing withย my copics, I did the dragon, background, and under the book. I think I even used them for the book covers. The pages, I used my prismacolor pencils because I don’t have many brown markers and I wanted it to be a little different than the cover.

Thanks for looking!

Coloring Black

So coloring black – not quite as easy as covering the image in black. Not if you like texture and dimension like I do ๐Ÿ™‚

I fell in LOVE with this imageย by ColletteTurnerย ย (you can find it here) and thought it would be perfect to practice using black.

My two challenges: color the hat black – without using straight black, and color the bird, also black, but not the same color black as the hat.

To break it down, I wanted two different colors of black without using black.

Easy, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

For her hat, I used neutral gray copics I have. At the end, I used black for my deepest shadows.

For the bird, I again used the grays, but added some blue, and followed up with black in my deepest shadows.

All in all, I think it turned out okay for my first attempt at using black as main focal points, but the artist made it easy by drawing such an amazing picture.

Still Learning Copics

This is another image by Jade Dragonne here.

I’m still practicing hair… One of the things I’ve always drooled over the copics for was how awesome the hair looked. How the artists were able to create texture…I’m still working on that.

I also added border dies to my die collection and wanted to use them, so yeah, I tossed that in, too ๐Ÿ™‚

Ha! Got’em!

The two pesky images that wouldn’t show up for the last post…I have them now ๐Ÿ˜€

I loved everything about this image when I saw it. The draping of the cloak, for practice, was fun. But I really had fun with the jeans. These are the first pair of jeans I’ve colored with my copics and I had a blast. My husband had just brought home some blue markers for me and I knew exactly what to use them on!

Isn’t she just ADORABLE?! I loved, loved, loved her hair, and her cute expression! I’ve come to a conclusion. Hair. I can do it on a larger scale. I still suck on smaller (or more detailed) work :/ And I love this green color combination.

Useless fact: Her hair has 7 colors in it. Only 3 of them are green. Go figure ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here’s a link to the original line art for this cutie pie. Be sure to check out all the other images, too! http://feriberri.deviantart.com/art/The-Dryad-Parsley-428795825

More Coloring – Because That’s What Big Kids Do

17 01 2016

I wanted to add three to this post, but two are being stubborn – like my 4yo is sometimes. But just like those situations, I’ll win in the end. That end may just have to be tomorrow.

This piece, Beautiful Lines by manic-goose, I picked because I LOVED the kimono. I’m trying to understand how the light hitting material affects it and how shadows, highlights, and mid-tones create more dimension. It’s like a magic trick, taking something flat and coloring it in a way that it doesn’t.

I’m still working on that magic trick, but I’m getting closer.

Some Art Work

17 01 2016

Jade Dragonne, at Deviant Art, has some great images for coloring! Her TOU allow others to color, as long as we give credit ๐Ÿ™‚ She has some great images, too! They’re cute, varied, and print off very well ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are a couple of her images that I used to practice with my copic markers (I’m gonna learn how to use these things, dog gone it!)

Bear Hat: Isn’t she the cutest?! I had fun trying to create depth and dimension with the shading on her hat. And I tried purple hair – how fun is that?

Love is Everything: I had new colors I wanted to play with. And I really need to practice hair. This was a great piece for both. I had so much fun coloring her hair. I’m still hit or miss when it comes to that, so, I guess I need to practice some more ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ice Skating: I wanted to work on shading white (hello snowman) creating a hard highlight for a metallic surface (hot chocolate mug!) and try the hard, but not too hard, line down the leg to add more dimension.

Holy Cow – Forever!

17 01 2016

I am SO bad at this blogging thing ๐Ÿ˜‰

My last blog talked about welcoming in a teenager and a toddler. Said children have now, officially and legally been ours for a year and a littleย  ๐Ÿ™‚

In that time, our family has seen some ups and downs as our brood of six kids gets older and grows into their own people.

This means that writing…well. I’ve tried. I wasn’t successful. I have to focus on things that don’t take as long, or can easily be set aside. So I’ve been playing with art digitally. And at Christmas, my husband started my copic marker addiction, so I’ve been learning how to use those…I may (okay, most likely, probably) will post some of them ๐Ÿ™‚ Many of the Deviant Art artists allow line art to be colored and ask that those who color link back to their original work. I need a place to do that from ๐Ÿ˜€
